Air on Earth does not escape to the vacuum of space because
Earth has a gravitational force that keeps the air molecules bound to it.
Gravity is the force that attracts objects with mass to one another, and
it is what keeps the air molecules from escaping into space.
The Earth's gravitational force is strong enough to hold onto
its atmosphere, which is made up of gases such as nitrogen,
oxygen, and carbon dioxide. These gases have mass and are
attracted to the Earth's surface, which means they stay close
to the planet rather than drifting off into space.
Additionally, the Earth's atmosphere is constantly replenished
by various processes such as volcanic activity, plant respiration,
and the evaporation of water from the oceans. This ensures that
the atmosphere remains relatively stable and that the air doesn't
escape into the vacuum of space.
Finally, it is important to note that some molecules in the Earth's
atmosphere can, in fact, escape into space, but this is a slow and
continuous process. This loss of atmosphere is balanced by the
constant replenishment mentioned above, which keeps the overall
atmospheric pressure and composition relatively stable over time.

Even at 4,500 years old, the Great Pyramid of Giza is still revealing new secrets.
On Thursday, Egyptian officials announced the discovery of a hidden corridor above
the pyramid's entrance. Measuring 30 feet long, the passage could serve as a
jumping-off point for additional research into the mysterious inner chambers.
According to a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, the pyramid
has been undergoing noninvasive scans since 2015. Through an international partnership
known as ScanPyramids, researchers from around the world have been using cosmic-ray
imaging and infrared thermography to map out what lies behind the sand-beaten stones
of the exterior.
These scans have revealed several voids, including the 30-foot passage, which lies just
behind a chevron-shaped configuration of stones not far from where today's tourists enter
the pyramid. A video released by ScanPyramids offers a glimpse into the mapping process
and shows where this newly discovered corridor lies.

Think giraffes have long necks? Paleontologists say a dinosaur that
roamed northwest China some 162 million years ago had a neck eight
times as long, making it the "longest-known neck in the animal
kingdom," per IFL Science.
Partial remains of the dinosaur,
Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum, were discovered in the Xinjiang
Uyghur Autonomous Region in 1987. More than three decades
later, researchers assessed the dinosaur's size and scale
in comparing the handful of fossilized bones, including
three vertebrae, with bones from complete skeletons of
related dinosaurs, per CNN. According to their study published
Wednesday in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology, this
sauropod had a 50-foot-long neck, about 10 feet longer than
a typical bus.
